Mojo 409 You are My Sunshine
Time for another Mojo Monday challenge. I went clean and simple with this week’s challenge. Sometimes when you just don’t have extra time, it best to use this method. Having the sketch really makes it easy to get something done!
I have many people in my life who create sunshine. Since I have only one card it will be hard to choose who to send it to. However, I am thankful for all my many friends who give me continual support.
Hope you have a great week!
Time for another Sketch challenge from Mojo Monday. The layout really appealed to me this week. I wanted to do some type of embellishment OTHER than a butterfly or flower. I flipped through my framelits and found the retired Cannery Framelit Set. I thought the corn was fun and would go perfect with one of my new favorite Designer Series Papers this year… Farmers Market.
Here’s the sketch. How did I do? The angle on the card was easy do. I made a straight strip of paper but made sure it was about 3/4 inch wider than my card width. This gave me room to angle it nicely and then cut off the excess. The purple pattern behind it is a rectangle so no figuring angles there either!
Here’s a close up of my paper corn. My matching stamp set is still in storage 🙁 and I am not able to get to it easily. No matter. I cut the framelit shape out twice (one in Old Olive and one in Hello Honey) and layered them on top of each other. I like my top version of corn better than the bottom. I used a Stampin’ Write Marker in the matching Hello Honey shade. Stampin’ UP! makes it so easy to bring a project together.
Sweet Corn is going to be finally in and my husband and I just love it. It was fun to discover a little stand that opens in the summer very close to our house. There are many fields growing corn near us to. I am not sure if it is sweet corn or regular field corn. The stand had wonderful sweet corn though!
One final picture… I had a card class on Thursday and I showed how to make a framelit lion card out of the Floral Framelits. I organized the table the night before, and of course, Crush had to supervise to make sure things were to his standard. I think he was a little disappointed the ladies didn’t come Wed. but he sat in his box during class like an angel on Thursday.
This week I needed to send out a couple Get Well cards. I grew up in Kansas so when I need comfort, home often comes to mind. The state flower of Kansas is the Sunflower, so this seemed an appropriate starting point for my cards.
My card was designed using this week’s Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge (Mojo404). It’s a tall and skinny challenge and my card measures 3 1/2 x 6 and fits in the size envelope you most likely mail your personal checks in.
- It was fun to use a different size card for a change. I think my recipients will be delighted to get something a little out of the ordinary.
- I love the ease of stamping and using a coordinating punch. So quick and provides professional result. The Beautiful Bunch Stamp set and Fun Flower Punch get the job done.
- I used Hello Honey ink on the Daffodil Delight card stock to bring in a richer feel to the petals. It seems to lean toward the brown color family when combined this way providing more depth.
- Using Stampin’ Dimensional’s between each of the 4 layers of the sunflower really brings the flower to life.
- The patterns in the new Designer Series Paper Stacks are definitely on trend. I love Polka dots and the words sheet like the one below were a much needed update to our stacks.
I chose to mix up the same papers and layers for a different effect on a second card.
My philosophy is that it takes just as much time to make two of the same card as it does one- Basically : Work smarter rather than harder!
Please leave me a comment and tell me which card you prefer. My husband and I chose different versions so I am curious as to your thoughts!
Mojo401 Sketch Challenge
How Fun! This is the first time I have participated in a Sketch Challenge and actually shared the results! I have followed www.MojoMonday.blogspot.com for years, playing along silently at times. When I need a shot of inspiration I can always find it there.
Here is the Sketch:
Here is my take on the Mojo401 Sketch:
It was a breeze using the new 6×6 paper stack called Pretty Petals. The paper designs are so yummy! They are so easy to coordinate together. I used a new stamp set called Remarkable You. I originally debated on the stamp set because of the price, but I love the size of the images in the set. For this card I actually chose an image that wasn’t one of the ones I was initially drawn too. Therefore, I think I am going to be reaching for this often. I used our good ole Stamp and Write markers to color the image in various hues (Calypso Coral, Tangerine Tango, Cajun Craze, Pear Pizazz and Old Olive). I used the out of the box framelit technique and then couldn’t help but apply a nice coat of Clear Dazzling Details for the sparkle… I always need some bling. I used an old paint brush to coat it on the flower and then washed my brush out right out.
Let me know what you think!
